House prices ‘fall 10.5% in year’ (BBC News)
UK house prices are down 10.5% on a year ago, the first annual double-digit fall since 1990, the Nationwide says.

The number of mortgages approved for house purchase in the UK stabilised in July but was still nearly two-thirds lower than a year earlier, figures showed today.

UK Mortgage Approval Numbers in a Decline
British Bankers Association reported that home loan approvals declined from 34,752 in April to 27,968 in May. This May’s number is 56.1% lower than the same time last year, and it’s the lowest number of mortgage approvals since 1997, when the BBA started recording data on the topic.
